Bamboo in the hood 7 months later

iain42September 10, 2011

I planted this bamboo around February.

The rhizome barrier is doing its job but I didn't expect it to prove its worth so quickly.

Here it is the day we planted the bamboo toward the end of February.

Here is a pic today.

Here is another pic from today. You can see the clusters of shoots. They are still coming up. Hopefully they will be bigger next year.

I'm really impressed with how well they have done. There is some yellowing in the leaves should I put anything on them? I also treat my tropicals and grass with fish emulsion would this also be good on the bamboo?

Thanks for the followup pix,,,it's looking good. As for the yellowing leaves, it is common to have some leaf changeout this time of year, so don't worry too much. As far as fertilizer, you probably don't want to add much this time of year. In fall, I use a product like 0-10-10, which encourages rhizome development without encouraging excessive foliage growth (which you don't want to do as the plants start to go dormant).

Thank you I will follow your advice. I'll find some 0-10-10. How often should it be applied?

I give each clump a good handful once in the fall.
