Bee hive?

brenda_bMay 23, 2007

I found this hive on our building. Is it a beehive, if so what kind is it?

It's hard to say from the picture, but my guess would be hornets or yellow jackets. Is it an active hive?

As far as I know it is an active nest. I just noticed it today. Never saw it b4, and this is only the 2nd summer...

I find binoculars or camera with powerful lens handy for observing something that I can't or don't want to get too close too. If you can get a good look at the occupants, there are some good photos and descriptions on wikipedia.
