pic of swarm that flew in - help!

cheerpeopleAugust 23, 2009

Can someone tell me what's going on here? I had a billion bees decend on my garden this evening. They paid no attention to the flowers like the regular bees.

They settled in on a shrub and the amount of 'dog piled' bees is about the size of 2 gallons of milk. They are all still now that it is night. But in flight there was quite a buzz.

Here is a picture. If they are real honey bees and planning to stay we have a problem. If they are not real bees but bee-like pests let me know too.

thx

Karen

They look like honey bees, a small swarm, they know that they can't survive in your climate outside, some scout bees are
looking for a new home, it could be between a wall of a house, barn, etc.
See if a bee keeper can pick them up.

seems like an odd time of year for a colony to be splitting, but as konrad says, just goggle your local county beekeepers assoc. and a member will be happy to come get them
