bird/bee house for newbie

daniel_clSeptember 2, 2010

We are delighted to see honeybees and bumblebees on our lavenders and flowering sedum in our new garden this year. We are thinking about little dollar-store bird houses to invite a bumblebee queen next year.

Will the bumblebees become too defensive around their nest (say in a 10 feet radius) and post dangers to human?

We also don't mind birds ended up in the bird house. But we know some birds could decimate the bee population nearby. Any suggestions to attract only the bee-friendly birds?

I don't think you have to worry about bird will decimate bumbles, most birds
go for smaller insects.
Those little birdhouses might be just fine to attract bumbles...put some
insulation material in there, you could also reduce the hole size, [about your middle finger size] with a piece of wood. Just place it where the
traffic is to a minimum.
