Bees in a tree stump

red013(6)October 1, 2011

I have bees living in a rotting tree stump next to my children's playset.

I was blowing leaves today and I was swarmed by the little highly agitated and aggressive bees. They are not real big and are yellow and black in color. I figured them for a type of ground yellowjacket.

I was hoping to find out how to rid myself of them. I can't let the kids play out there while they're around.

Any info would be great.

Thanks!

Yes...sounds like yellow jacket, get some wasp killer and spray a few second into the hole at night, then stuff quickly the hole with some paper, you might have to repeat the next day if some still fly. If nothing gets done, most likely by next spring all are dead.

A more humane solution you might try is to just spray a bit of bug repellent around there.

I did that to get rid of some hornets in a tailpipe. They hated the smell and left.
