Has anyone tried growing potatoes in az? ANy luck?
Can they be grow from seed?
I grew them once as a kid. Just plant a potato in the ground, with spuds. You will get a nice big plant, and several more potatoes. Real easy plant to deal with.
I did grow some from potato pieces that I ordered because I wanted t try some unusual ones. It worked out fine.
They used to (and may still) grow potatoes commercially in Queen Creek.
Sweets too, although this is not the right time. I am ready to harvest a half-whiskey barrel of sweeties that I planted in mid-June.
The russets I harvested just before summer hit this year so am guessing I planted them in late winter/early spring. Don't remember off-hand. Easy peasy to grow.
