Winter garden?

pumpkineater2October 16, 2013

Can anyone tell me what kind of vegetables can grow well in the middle of winter? I want to try a winter garden but time is quickly running out. I know I can try some winter squash but besides that? Thanks in advance.

"Winter squash" need to be planted in the mid-summer. they are called "winter" squash because they could be kept during the winter.

Mostly the cool weather crops are green leafy stuff: chard, spinach, lettuce, chinese greens like bok choy,

I do carrots, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage and have some peppers that I will try and winter over (under plastic and heat) lots of nice salads fresh from the garden is always nice. Cauliflower and Brussels sprouts are also nice winter crops here.

I know I am a little late to this discussion but some other considerations are chickpea, beets, fava beans, cilantro, and many other greens not mentioned.
