Planting Bulbs

MaryMcP Zone 8b - Phx AZOctober 9, 2012

I picked up some ranunculus, anemone and crocus bulbs yesterday. Do I need to refrigerate them for a while before planting? If so, how long?

Anyone know where I can pick up some rain lilly bulbs? Are they usually available locally? Didn't see them at Summer Winds yesterday and forgot to look for them at Baker's last week.

I know next to nuthin' 'bout bulbs, except that you can get almost anything at Walmart for lots less than nurseries.

I impusively bought some daffodil bulbs myself (from Walmart, wouldn'tcha know) and wondered the same thing myself. I read somewhere to delay planting until the soil cooled, November or December in the desert.

I don't plan to chill mine, as the planting site doesn't get much sun in winter. If you're going to plant them in a warmer spot, I would say it doesn't hurt to emulate the weather in the bulbs' native zones by chilling them for a few weeks before planting. (Crocuses in particular will emerge while there's still snow on the ground.)
