Where can I learn about begonias?

Gardener972(7b-8a DFW)April 25, 2009

Is there a good web site/s where I can learn all about begonias? I'd like pictures of different types, soil preparations, care, etc.

Also, if you can recommend some good books, I'd like that too.

Start with Brad's Begonia World - not the best site for pictures but a wealth of information.

The Houston web site is a good location for pictures and some more information - data bases, etc.

The American Begonia Society has improved their web site and has some pictures and notices for upcoming events.

Seeing how you are in the DFW area, you should attend one of their meetings and join if you like it.

Find a mentor (hopefully in the DFW club).

Scour the Internet. There are some nuggets on this forum for example.

Start experimenting by buying some new begonias and growing them to their potential. Try propagation and learn from mistakes and advice from others.

Go to a convention (the annual convention is this week in West Palm Beach) where you meet knowledgeable people and get to pick up lots of begonias at low prices.
