wild grass that cuts your legs as you walk by

freedeeJune 24, 2009

I have an area that is a retention pond run-off, that turns into a natural stream, in the middle of the back of my back yard. The natural area has a wide clear, flat area that is completely covered with a grass that looks great, but make the area impossible to visit because of this mean grass. The only other plants that are there are skunk cabbage, I like those, and some ostrich, and cinnamon fern. I would like to plant other plants, is there a way I could suppress the grass in areas? Would it be futile to try?

Might be rice cut grass. Good for erosion control in wet areas.

My experience is that if you get other plants growing they will compete with it pretty well. A weed trimmer might help getting the project started. I put a list of plants that commonly associate with this plant on my website, latin names only though.

Here is a link that might be useful: Rice Cut Grass
