Bog plants for Winter Climates

calpat(zone9ab No.Ca.)July 14, 2004

My Sister lives in Montana where they have extreme winter temperatures. She has an ideal small pond that needs help. I suggested a bog garden, but I can't find info. on bog plants except the tropicals. She would need something to survive harsh winters. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I don't know how they would do in Montana, but the link below is a list of plants that grow in the bogs of Wisconsin. The USDA zones for Wisconsin range from 3 in the north to 5 in the south. We do have harsh winters!

Perhaps the list can provide you with some ideas of the types of plants to check out.

Here is a link that might be useful: Native Bog Plants
