what do they look like

anderson4paint(Z7 Long Island)April 21, 2005

I ordered the QVC begonias and planted them, as directed, in pots about 3 weeks ago. Nothing was happening until yesterday when I noticed that 2 or 3 out of the 15 were getting little tiny seedling sprouting out. Is this what is supposed to happen or did I drop seeds from something else in my greenhouse inthe pots. Weeds perhaps?

Was it tuberous bulbs ? or seeds ? Bulbs should be thicker sprouts compared to tiny seedlings. maybe some begonia seeds germinated ?

They were bulbs. What has sprouted does not look like what I would have ever imagined from the bulb. That's why I asked.

When they first poke through the soil they look like ruffled tulip sprouts. nothing like seeds.

Well then I don't know what is growing out of those pots. I used potting mix, couldn't imagine. Guess I have to wait and see.

Here are some pictures of begona sprouts. They have just come up through the soil surface (pots).

Thank you very much. That is certainly not the seedling looking like thing coming out of the pots that I planted begonias in.

You are the best, this is exactly what I was looking for. A pitcture of what a begonia sprouting looks like.

Kenneth,
the photos are exellent. They belong in a text book.
thanks for sharing them. Very educational.
My begonnias are in my shade garden. This past winter they continue with their beautiful green foliage. Just before spring they started to bloom again. Here in Florida they can not stand full sun
