Gervase with a twist

anna_in_quebec(z4 QC)September 22, 2010

My Gervase bloomed this summer, and the first picture shows the standard appearance of the bloom, gorgeous for sure, but the second (another bloom that opened a few days later) - WOW - it opened to display a work of art!

This is one of my favorite hybrids :) Does anyone know the parentage?

You must LOVE the randomness of Gervase. I love mine so much I'm ordering more this year. Out of all of my hippies, this is the wife's favorite.

Ryan - is Gervase known for its "randomness"?

Anna-- most definitely. My first and only bulb grew amazing amounts of blooms for me, and every single one was different in its patterns. The solid red seems to choose a different spot on each flower that is different from the one before. I believe I got 3 scapes out of that round-- some 15+ blooms and not one was the same.

It has yet to rebloom for me but has grown to considerable size this summer so I am hoping for a nice performance. Although, i also plan on adding more of this bulb to my collection, too.
