squirrels and bulbs

wanttogarden(USDA 9b, Sunset 15, N. Calif.)May 2, 2008

This year 4 of my giant bulbs became victim of squirrels. So to protect the rest by making dooms from chicken wire and placing them on top of the pots.

Now that the bulbs sprouting, the leaves and shoots are stuck under the dome and not coming through the mesh.

At what point, squirrels will leave these bulbs alone and when I can lift the domes out?

FJ I would lift the domes and cut a piece of wire to fit around the stock and cover the tuber
