Air plant looks too dry and too wet? Is this plant still ok?

MyLadyIronyJanuary 8, 2014

I got this plant a few months ago in a terrarium. I've been spraying it a few times a week during the week (it's my work plant). I went on vacation for a couple of weeks recently (but watered it fairly well before I left). It looks different to me. Some of the spines seem darker at the base. Is it still ok? what's wrong with it and how do I fix it?

Also what kind is it?

Looks ok to me. The older leaves will slowly die off.

The dark hue inside the crown is usually a sign that rot is setting in. T. ionanthas do not like terrariums, they need air. Tug on the middle leaves.

What am I looking for when I tug the center leaves?

That the leaves hold firm. If they pull out easily then rot has set in
