h. misty bulb divided into 4 pieces good news!

hippeastrumadmirer(5)October 2, 2010

So, my h. misty was infested with larvae that were eating inside the bulb, I hvae tried other methods in the past but they never worked for me, so i used my own judgement and i cut the bulb in 4 pieces leaving the basal plate exposed, i dipped it in peroxide and alcohol, and then I put rooting hormone on the basal plate, this was back in august 26th I think or before and I see some roots appearing and i think little bulblets are growing, the reason i think succeeded was because i did not moisten the vermiculite, the bulb pieces half a little bit of fungal attack but they are still working! I may have a little bit of bulbs soon! :)

Keep us posted. You probably should have soaked them in a systemic fungicide, but we'll see how this goes. I also have done this crude cuttage. You will need to moisten the medium a little, otherwise the bulbs will dry up. The baby bulb develops off the mother, and they use the bulb tissue as nurishment. You need to provide a little moisture to keep the mother bulb going!

It's not too late to start with fresh medium and treat them with the fungicide. Better to do this now than to wait and lose them all to fungus!!
