Happy Spring Guys!!!!

bandjzmom(7 NWGeorgia)April 12, 2014

Hello to all of the old friends, and nice to meet you to the new ones! Spring is here, and the butterfly fever has begun! Thought I would update you on what is going on here in my NW GA yard. I have already released 38 Black Swallowtails this spring, more males than females. They had overwintered in my garage. I have Spicebush SWT chrysalides from last fall, and I still have the one Zebra SWT chrysalis. Maybe it's dead, but we know not to give up on Swallowtails. :) I am seeing big Tigers in the yard, but that is about it so far, other than the BST's I've released myself. I do have eggs and tiny BST cats on my Fennel already. Butterfly Weed has broken the ground, and I just planted 2 Swamp MW plants that I picked up at the native plant sale. Looking forward to reading about your news and sharing another great butterfly season with you all. ~~Angie

We're all glad spring is here, and you're posting again, Angie!

That's a LOT of black swallowtails to overwinter, but then I overwintered 67 pipevine swallowtails! The one in the picture is beyond gorgeous!

Spring is a busy time, my favorite time of the year!

Happy Spring to all!
Thank goodness finally sun and warmth. Our winter was so bad that my Brazilian Verbena croaked. I hope it reseeds. Many of my shrubs have dead leaves and may not rebound. Slowly working to trim and clean up a bit in the front. I misted my wintering over chrysalis and await their birth.
May all these days be long and filled with flowers and butterflies.
