Susan,abt the woodpeckers...

dragonflydeeApril 22, 2014

I meant to post back sooner, but got distracted!

I use cracked corn from the feed store, and put it
Out on a line in a pile on top of my platform feeder.
I put out 3 to four cups, and skip a day or two
Until the birds clear it up.

The woodpeckers who come are from a allied family
Of Red Bellied woodpeckers who cavity nest nearby.

Yesterday I saw a hummingbird hen picking soft dried
Nesting lining from a old cattail head in my Dragonfly
Pond.She was so cute!

Happy Spring and Regards!

Good for you, SCG...
My first sighting is imminent; the first dandelions are blooming and the Anaphalis is getting tall enough for an American Lady to lay eggs on. Also, my Pussytoes are in bloom and my Urtica dioica is 3" high. We've had some on again off again warm weather and it's only a matter of time before I see that fluttering out of the corner of my eye- and it's not a leaf!!
I see a few Noctuid moths around my porch light on warmer nights, so I know we're getting close :-)
