Moon Cactus Becoming Dull

kurfsec(8a)February 10, 2013

I've been doing a bit of research on this forum and it seems that most people aren't fans of these moon cacti, but I purchased before I knew it was grafted and would still like to keep it alive! Anyway, I've had it for over a year now but in the last few months it has become very dull and even has been becoming green, mostly on the top. Common sense is pointing me in the direction of the lack of sun in these grey winter days, but I just want to confirm!

I've attached a picture from when I first got it for comparison.

And when it first arrived, nice and colorful!

It's not becoming dull, it's growing. I think the grafted cactus is normally that purple color, so the light green may eventually turn more purple if it gets enough light.

This link has some pictures, there is one growing without a graft that is the color of yours.

Here is a link that might be useful: Gymnocalycium mihanovichiii

Yes, I think this is a naturally colourful one capable of surviving on its own root system, not one of those godawful neon things which would die without being grafted.
