What To Do With Flapjack??

charle7(9)February 8, 2008

I have a large and beautiful succulent flapjack plant in my cacti garden and it has a very long stem - about 3 feet - growing out the center. It got so tall with the rain and wind it is leaning over. I don't want it to just break off so should I cut it close to the plant and repot the stem or lie it in the soil so it could root on it's own or are all of these ideas wrong. This is my second year dealing with these kind of plants and I don't know what to do. Please help.

You're plant is flowering! Lucky you. Kalanchoe thyrsiflora grows a stalk up to 3 feet high and the flowers are long lasting. Unfortunately, that plant dies after flowering, so hopefully it's produced some offsets for you to replace it. Lovely plants. Haven't seen the flower stalk fall over before; perhaps you could use a plant support, like the thin metal ones used for tall flowering plants, to help support it? Here's a link that shows a pic of one in bloom: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalanchoe_thyrsiflora
