Time to re-pot my Golden Barrels. I've been using Dry Stall (pumice) but what commercial potting soil should I mix it with? What ratio? The largest one is about seven inches in diameter and it pretty much fills the pot, any thoughts on pot sizing?
Jonnie, Well if I can share what I use it wont be anything special, I simple use Reg. cacti & succulent mix then I add some Perilite to the mix and thats it, simple. Ive never lost a barrel and they're actually pretty hardy, I have also planted them in the ground and never had a problem.
Sory it was post 2X

I mix up batches in my concrete mixer:
5 gallons loam (clean organic-free topsoil from my property)
2 gallons sand
2 gallons small gravel
2 gallons perlite
I sift the topsoil through a box with 1/4" hardware cloth in the bottom to screen out rocks, grass roots, etc... Cost for my soil mix is very low, the most expensive ingredient being the perlite.
Cactus_cowboy, Now I like that, I always knew there had to be a better way to mix all the dif. soils, i like the cement mixer idea for sure, So now I'll have one on my list of things for the garden.
The concrete mixer is great, very fast, easy and thorough.
