I need a butterfly id too.

I don't think I've ever seen one of these. It was almost as big as a Buckeye. The coppery color on its wings was sort of shiny/metalic looking. Kinda pretty for a brown butterfly.

Hmmm....I thought all the roadside skippers were of the "airplane" winged types, which this one definitely is not. Also, dusky roadside skippers don't occur in Missouri.

Looks to me more like a female horace's duskywing, possibly a juvenal's duskywing.

Definitely a female Horace Duskywing. I have seen some beautiful ones this year with intense coloring.

Great photo! They do like the Verbena bonairiensis.
