ID help

cnslr81October 27, 2008

Hi everyone! A coworker and I bought bromeliads about 6 weeks ago from Lowes, so of course the tag simply says bromeliad. I have a guzmania, however I'm not certain what type she has. Can you please help id her plant? Also, does the flower open any more or is it the kind that simply looks like a sword?

Pardon the photo quality, they are taken with a cell phone.

Sarah, it's a Vriesea, but I'm not sure which variety. From your photo I can't tell if there are multiple "paddles" or just one that is kind of twisted towards the top. If it is the first one the cluster should open up and separate out a bit more, but the individual paddles don't change shape much.
