I love them! Did you pick me up a couple while you were there? These are on my shopping list for this winter, probably seed. I love a challenge!

Those beauties are Obregonia denegrii, a plant already at the top of my want list.

I bet they've got a few years on them! I've had a little Obregonia for a couple years, and it has barely grown at all. Of course, Bangkok gets a bit more sun and heat units than MN, but still...

These plants are not mine but they belong to a very respected longtime grower. He grew every plants from seeds himself. To my guess this batch must be at least 8-9 years. It seems these plants start out quite fast as young seedlings but once attain a certain size seems to slow down and tend to add the tubercles rather than adding diameter, so very large plants are rare. They also love heat and sunshine, but given a partial shade situation they will do equally well and turn deep green/bluish in coloration
