Is This a Great-Spangled Fritillary?

sharingsunshine(zone7/VA)June 13, 2013

The more I compare fritillary images with those online the more confused I am. I decided on Great-Spangled but would like a confirmation before using it in a blog post.

Thank you so much!

Could be, if it seemed to be the largest of local fritillaries; it does have the markings of the GSF.

Atlantis fritillary is ruled out.

These are better identified by the underside view.

It would be accurate to say it is a silvered or a greater fritillary if the exact species is not known. Silvered might confuse blog readers since only the topside is visible.
