Unknown Caterpillar

karyn1(7a)July 25, 2011

I found this cat on my Passiflora holosericea this morning. It's just under an inch long. I get Variegated fritillary cats on my passion vines but don't know what this is.

It's a woolly bear caterpillar, Karyn, that makes the Isabella tiger moth. They have variable amounts of orange in the center.
They eat a large variety of plants, so if you don't want it eating your passionvine, you could try moving it.

Sherry that's too funny. I thought it looked like a tiny woolly bear but thought no it couldn't possibly be that. lol I see them here often but late in the season when they are big and crawling around on the ground.
