When I bought this tillandsia, it was all plain dark green color. When it started to blush, it made me curious of what the name of the plant it is and how the flower looks like. Anyone know what it is?
Either T. brachycaulos or bradeana, the flower will tell.
Not T. polystachia, Gonz?
Doubtful Lisa due to the extreme blush. Could be wrong though (wouldn't be the first time). Bradeana, which used to be called abdita, flowers with a somewhat sunken rosette. Brachycaulos' flowers extend beyond the crown and polystachia exudes a tall spike.
T. polystachia gets dark purplish red when grown hard in full sun here, Gonz. It stays that color all the time, rather than blushing at anthesis like the two you mention. I'm not seeing any signs of bloom on the one in the picture, in fact the center is green. The lax form looks just like the poly seedlings that have popped up here and there around my place........... but, I could be wrong too. ;-)
Just in case you didn't believe me......
Your plant does look like a twin Lisa. The poly's I've seen/grown out here don't show that intense blush. Then again they aren't grown in full sun. Time to move mine.
Thank you Gonzer and Lisa for figuring it out! The picture you have Lisa does look very similar to my plant.
