aechmea dichlamydea flower petals

moegreenDecember 5, 2008

Ive been monitoring closely for several mornings a few blooms of dichlamydea var trinitensis. The flower has me a bit puzzled. I never see it open its petals. I see the dead flowers on occasion, but never open in the morning. Ive been checking on them from 7 AM to noon.

Is this plant similar to the recurvata that does not fully open and must pried open when it is receptive? Any input from anyone who has worked with this plant would be appreciated.

Why not take a flower off at different times and dissect the flower so you know what is going on in there and when the pollen is ripe?

I've never noticed anything unusual about the flower. Maybe a picture is in order so we can make sure we're all on the same page.
