Centaurea americana seed available

annainok(7b)July 6, 2010

I'm starting to harvest Centaurea americana seed from my pasture. This has been a great nectar source for a wide variety of butterflies here. If you'd like some, let me know. I should have plenty.

This is a native, but not native to my area. I'm battling so many things in my backyard (mby) that I'll pass. Thanks for sharing seeds.

Here is a link that might be useful: USDA Plant Profile for Centaurea americana

Got it, Miss Sherry!

I understand about the native-but-not-local issue. I'm trying to avoid that here as well.

For those who might be interested, C. americana is an annual that will readily reseed itself. However you can prevent unwanted growth by only a allowing a few to go to seed for next year; remove the remainder just after the flowers are spent. Since the flowers are quite large and only a few per plant, this is not a difficult task.

Have you still got any Centaurea americana seeds or any other thistles for exchange?
Thank you
