Books?

lamattFebruary 15, 2011

Hello, I'll be moving to NS soon, and want to study up on plants that will do well in my new home. Can anyone recommend books that would be good for gardeners in Nova Scotia?

Thanks!

Laurie

Where in NS are you moving? I just moved here in August from Thunder Bay, Ontario.

There is a garden writer that just wrote a book for NS. I haven't read it.

That's her site.

Nova Scotia has a wide range of micro climates. I'm in the Valley where the weather for growing things seems to be the best. Zone 5B but based on the winter lows it's probably more like zone 6.

Hi,
I would recommend' A-Z ENCYCLOPEDIA OF GARDEN PLANTS'
by:Christopher Brickell,Trevor Ole,Judith Zuk.

The book has a big format,over 2000 pages,beautiful photos.
provides information for North America gardeners.

I did some book reviews on my blog recently (link below). My absolute favorite is "The Vegetable Gardener's Bible" by Edward Smith. Very detailed instructions and descriptions, good photos, and the guy lives in a cooler climate (like nearly all Canadians). Hard to beat.
