TOMATOES - In San Francisco!!!

patmonk(10a: Sunset17)March 10, 2012

Hoping for a better season. Planning on erecting a 'structure' over my tomato bed this year to maximise heat etc. Was gonna cover with clear plastic but a couple of 'experts' suggested 'shade cloth' would be preferable. That seemed counter intuitive to me as I thought the last thing they needed was more shade.

Can anyone enlighten me.

If link doesn't work it's to "Homegrown Tomatoes" by Guy Clark.

Use the clear plastic for san francisco, they will need more heat not more shade.
