My first Monarch in almost 2 years!

I didn't have any last summer, so I was so excited to have this little visitor stop by today! Not sure if its male or female, but was pretty territorial...chased an American Lady away from the zinnias several times!

Actually, now that I'm looking at the pictures, I can't tell if its the same butterfly...in bottom pick, it looks "fresher" than in the top...It flew behind the house for a minute but came back, at least I assumed it was the same one that came back. Would be great if there really was 2 of them!

It's a male (at least the first one is). I can see those little scent glands. He's so beautiful! I see them sometimes, but not as often as I'd like. Usually I see them in the fall, so they must pass through here on their migration. I've seen them fly over the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway before during the spring and fall.

Alex is right, it is a male (top pic). See the small black dots on the lower wings. I haven't had any in the past two summers :( so I order eggs this year! They hatched 12 days ago and are really big right now. Can't wait to see them emerge as butterflies! I wonder if they will lay eggs on my milkweed when I let them go :)

Congrats, Cathy! I hope they do stick around for you!

I think they are both the same butterfly, had some wishful thinking there for a second. I hope his lady friends come around!
