camellia sinensis hydroponically

rrr1976(Tacoma, WA)September 3, 2005

hello,

anyone have experience growing camellias hydroponically. if so, some advice please? have 6 shrubs i am growing this winter indoors near seattle. temp remains 76-85 under light w/ humidity usually above 50%. i imagine watering, solution strength, ph and root size may be the main hurdles.

I am no expert just a hobbyist, but to my knowledge the roots of a camellia suffocate in water immersion (there is an old saying, "camellias can't stand wet feet") they need some air. I would love to know if you are able to figure out a way. We have lost some camellias recently due to standing water from hurricane flooding.
