Dioscorea hemicrypta seedlings

daveh_sf(San Francisco)April 20, 2013

I'm growing some seedlings of Dioscorea hemcrypta, which now have 2 or 3 leaves and a little soft white caudex about 1/8" - 1/4". From what I've read they're mostly winter growers and should be kept dry in the summer. Should I be cutting back on the water as Summer approaches, or keep watering them as long as they're still growing? I'm growing bigger plants of D. elephantipes and D. sylvatica successfully, but I have no experience with these seelings.

Depends as you say, if the leaves are there you can lightly water, but when they wilt or fall off, stop.
