Rose of Sharon

kate-100May 20, 2008

I have a standard Rose of Sharon about 6' tall. It has been growing in my backyard for about 5 years and now I digged it out and planted it in a large plastic pot. I intend to take it to my basement for winter but my question is if it can survive such a treatment. Any suggestions?

We don't know the zone you are in. It needs a rest period. If it has been growing for 5 years, and it is happy, I don't understand why one would want to take it out and place it into a warm place where it won't get the required hibernation period, and where it will likely dry up, and/or suffer from light deprivation if it were to not go dormant. To me, it makes no sense, but there must be another motive behind the question. Are you planning a move?
