Looking for landscaping advice

lara_jayeMay 27, 2013

This is the 2nd year in our house and we are now working on the front yard.
I am horrible with landscaping and would love some ideas for our front bed and around the entry.

We are redoing the roof in a black/charcoal and also the door in a charcoal colour. We dont have money to change out the stairs right now, but are planning on removing the white posts and replacing with more substantial beams.

We edged out the bed and were thinking about putting a large rock in front of the stairs as a retaining wall (hopefully can post pic) and perhaps an umbrella style tree.

Any suggestions for specific plants. It is an east facing sun/shade area. We like the minimalist look.

Would appreciate any advice!!!

Minimalist as in Japanese gardens? or French gardens with wide use of topiaries?

My suggestion would be for you to look up magazines and choose a colour scheme that you are attracted to and copy them.

I agree, do your research as don't be afraid to go to your local garden centre with your photos. They are specialists who can help you save a lot of hours on your knees in that front bed! :S

You're going to need perennials with a deep root system to keep the soil from running down onto the walkway/driveway. Have you thought about putting in a stone wall to the right to eliminate the slope?
