Plant perfection

bahia(SF Bay Area)April 21, 2012

Ordinarily I am not a huge fan of hybridized plants over natural species, but must admit there are some hybridizers that hit homeruns with their work; be it intentionally hybridized or a happy accident of pollination. This Agave 'Blue Glow' is a great example, and apparently there are now dozens in bloom down at the Los Angeles Country Arboretum if you care to see one in person. This is just a young plant in a container on my back deck, looking beautiful without a whole lot of care...

Yes, indeed. I'm afraid that I'm just now getting sucked into the whole agave thing and it scares me, 'cause you know you can't have just one......

Blue Glow is not just a home run, it's a Grand Slam.

That red line on the edge of the leaves is so pretty. It has such a nice shape, too. My plain blue ones are all wiggly.

Wow! That's cool. I've always wanted to grow this Agave but never found it in typical nursery. Saw it for the first time on Sunset magazine site and have been in love ever since! Nice to see the picture.

My friend has a variegated one. They definitely are very cool plants.
