What's the easiest to grow canna for a container. Ideally, we would like a plant that's about 2-3 feet or taller. I am most familiar with Robert Kemp and was wondering if there are easier to grow varieties.
lemon punch and maui punch are both good ones. there dwarf types and only get to 3-4 ft if there not really crowded. both have green leaves but grow well in a pot..not sure what to tell you for colored leaves since most of those get very tall. bird of paradise canna is wonderful if your not worried about height.
I think any cannas will do well in pots if you water. I have grown two large ones, Australia and Cora, for years.
How frequently do you water? Mine are in Jacksonville, Florida on an east-facing porch where they get a full half-day of sun (morning). They are part of large containers with about 10 different plants in each container. How often should I water them? Is a deep watering twice a week about right?
I posted last summer, noting that Pink Sunburst is great for containers since the foliage alone is a delight.
The ones in my large containers are Crimson Beauty. I love them: all green leaves with dark pink blossoms.
I live in 6B and I deep water the container cannas every day. They get sun at least six hours each day.
