shrub identification

purple-anemoneJune 6, 2011

Does anyone know what shrub this is in my garden and how to prune it? Now that the flowers are opening, they smell like Jasmine, but the Jasmine I know, looks different. I'm going to try to post a picture for the first time.

Looks like a Philadelphus species (Mockorange). The scent is generally thought to be closer to orange blossom then jasmine (hence the name)
