Another unknown cluster of

terryr(z5a IL)August 19, 2011

I was at my parents house late yesterday afternoon, wanting to get a picture of this caterpillar that we'd seen the day before on some of the swamp milkweed I had planted for them. Not a Monarch either. Of course the cat was gone, searching high and low for the thing turned up nothing. While looking though, I did discover this cluster of eggs on a Boltonia leaf. My mom wanted to pick the leaf off and take it to the extension office and ask what they were and I think I frightened her with my quick and somewhat loud..NO!! not frighten our

Does anyone know what these belong to? (I know I need a manicure!)

So these aren't stink bugs? I didn't think they looked like barrels, they look round and 2 of them are a pale orange color.

I can't remember any Rhop species that use Boltonia as a LFP, but can't say for the Micro or smaller Macrolepidoptera families as I never spent much time doing life history work on them. Not much help.
