Beneficial plants for lake with blue green algae

donna_jj(5b Montreal QC)September 6, 2008

Hello everyone,

I am trying to find information about which plants would be beneficial to plant along the shoreline of a lake with a blue-green algae problem. There is always media talk of helping the lake by planting, but I have not been able to find good information about which plants would help the most. If anyone has any suggestions, links, etc.. please let me know.

If blue algae is rampant, then there is a chemical imbalance as a result of more nitrates being added to the area (say fertilizer in rain run offs, or laundry soap, sewage, etc..). Check with your local environmental group to see what they suggest. Don't do any DIY solutions otherwise you'd risk introducing a possible invasive plant.
