Dwarf Bougs in ground as a shrub?

dziadzia(S 24)May 15, 2013

My front yard in San Diego is a slope down to the street and is in need of some color! I was checking out the newer dwarf bougainvilleas - bambinos - and was wondering if anyone has experience with them in the ground. They seem to be mainly marketed for hanging baskets/pots but I actually have enough room for them to grow on my slope.

I appreciate any experience you are willing to share!

I grew one for a while in south OC. It was Baby Alyssa, I believe, with white flowers and gently variegated leaves It grew as easily as the other varieties in the ground and was not difficult to keep low. It got removed only because we needed the location for a bench, and there were no sunny places in the garden to move it.

My son grew one in Santa Cruz that was easy, trouble free, and beautiful. I would have them here if they would survive the winter. Al
