I was wondering if I could winter sow Purple Fountain grass? If so, when do I collect the seeds, and when should they be planted?
I'm a complete newbie, and may try some WS this Winter.
I've been told it's sterile but you can give it a try to see for yourself. I never bothered after being told that it was sterile. Maybe someone else knows for sure.
I tried from my collected seed and not a sprout.I do see packs in the seed racks though.
I cut mine back last year, brought the pot into the basement(dark) only watered maybe 3 or 4 times all winter and it started to grow when I brought it out in early Spring. It is doing well right now.
Pennisetum setaceum 'Rubrum' Purple Fountain grass seed is sterile, however Pennisetum setaceum Fountain Grass and Panicum violaceum Purple Fountain Grass can be purchased and proprogated by seed.
Well, there wasn't a tag on the plants, so I'm not sure which variety they are. They are quite pretty, and I thought I'd give WS a try this year. Maybe I'll stick to some other seeds.
