Fungus(?) in garden

JulieBroOctober 27, 2012

This brown grass-looking stuff started growing in my garden in September. It is not like grass, though. It is sort of watery, which makes me think it might me some sort of mushroom. Not sure if it was the drought or if it is related to this stuff, but not much grew this year. Any help towards identification and remedy would be appreciated.
