WANTED: Trilliums Wanted

keithrnjd(7b)February 21, 2008

I have gotten interested in trilliums lately. Does anyone have any to trade? I have started hummingbird vine and cardoon, I have one of Tony Avent's perennial impatiens, a dwarf Cavandish banana, and in a few weeks I will have some cool purple calla and maroon calla bulbs. I also have some tiger lily babies I started from seed.

What say?

Sally, I should have Trilliums to share. My original plant was rescued during road construction somewhere in western NC. I have divided it several times and still have the original in pots. It is Trillium cuneatum or 'Little Sweet Betsy' with mottled leaves and a maroon red flower. If they survived last summer's drought, they should be coming up any day now. I will let you know as soon as they do. Ralph

Careful about leaving them in the pots for several seasons. They have contractile roots and can pull themselves down too far and "drown." Of course, last summer we had so little rain that they are probably ok. Some of mine are starting to come up. Yeah! Trilliums and gingers (Hexastylis) are my favorite natives.

Sally, I have the same kind of trillium Ralph has. Mine are blooming now, as his likely are. Let me know if you need some for the April 19 swap. I would like to have some perennial impatients if you still can share it.

Sally, I now have three pots with Trillium blooming in them and one is reserved for you. One pot has a Celandine Poppy seedling in it. Would you like that one or one without the poppy?

Ralph, I would love the one with the Poppy in it. I have a couple of nice candy lily seedlings for you in exchange. The impatiences, however, have bit the dust. I will have to get some from the ones in the ground for later. So, don't worry about the tricyrtis; we can swap in the fall.
