Anyone grow Crinodendron hookerianum?

mark4321_gwJuly 16, 2010

I just picked up a 1 gallon Crinodendron hookerianum. It's a beautiful shrub. I don't have photos yet (it's mostly in bud) but I give a link to other's photos below.

I'm curious if anyone has any experience with this plant--how fast does it grow, particular problems it's prone to, how to propagate it, etc. Any info would be great.

I got it at last weekend's Strybing Arboretum sale (I think it was $9). I also saw a larger plant at Roger Reynold's nursery in Menlo Park a few weeks ago, probably in the $40 range.

Here is a link that might be useful: Crinodendron hookerianum photos on Flickr

It hates hot, dry weather, and it's prone to spider mites. It likes cool, humid weather so much that even here in the Pacific Northwest, it grows much larger on the immediate coast than it does in Seattle. Other than that, it's spectacular, and it's very easy to propagate from tip cuttings.
