Ot: Have you seen these new petunias?

pagrdnrAugust 11, 2010

I found out about these on the annuals forum....black petunias. I know they aren't something everyone will ike, but I like unusual things. There is a solid black one called black velvet, and strpide ones called pinstripe and phantom. I hope I can find them for sale next year.

Here is a link that might be useful: black velvet

Those are beautiful and would look very unique in the garden. They could not be in full sun here as plants with dark leaves or flowers get overheated and fry this time of year.

They are definitely interesting looking. I'd love those in the garden but wonder if they really appear black or just a super dark plum?

I like them. I like unusual plants and dark plants make the lighter ones pop.

I saw it on the annual forum also and it looks interesting.

(I always thought that the white, or lighter colored flowers, make the dark ones pop. I have had some dark petunias on my patio, but not as dark as these. With four walls surrounding my patio, and living in Southern California, what with the heat, I cannot provide a perfect condition for any of my plants. That's why I have gone to ligustrum and had to let my brugs go.
The petunias in question did fine for a while, when the weather was cool. And then they just gave up the ghost and I got rid of them. I hope you have better luck!!!

I saw both of them at a nursery (sold in a hanging basket). I liked them and thought they were interesting looking but they were expensive $25-$30. Have not seen them since.

Oooooooooo, those are pretty, but I wouldn't pay too much $$ for them!
