Free to good home - Coffee Tree
I have a coffee tree in a pot that has grown too big for me to lug inside for winter and outside for summer. Besides the fact that I don't drink coffee so even if it produced beans I wouldn't be using them.
I picked the coffee bean up off the ground while hiking through the mountains of central Mexico. I have no idea what cultivar it is. It sprouted in the winter of 2000 so it will be ten years old this winter. It has frozen back to about two feet a few years ago. I have also pruned it heavily a few time to keep it under control. I guess its about four feet tall right now.
Coffee trees (bushes) make decent houseplants. Their flowers are fragrant. Their biggest problem is that they are prone to scale bug infestations which this plant gets every year. You either have to use chemical sprays or hand wipe each leaf and stem to kill them.
This will be its last year under my care. I will drag it to the Fall Swap for anyone that might want it. No exchange necessary.
