Sedum'll Eat 'em

tsugajunkie z5 SE WIJune 17, 2013

With apologies to Shel Silverstein

"Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout
would not cut the sedum out.
It ran across her garden bed
It swallowed plants, til all were dead.
It ate the rocks. It ate the trees.
It brought the mailman to his knees.
And though the sedum gave her joy,
no one's seen the paperboy.
And when it grabbed her, she did shout.
But still...
She would...not...cut...the sedum out."

Gonna hafta do sumpin' about this.

Actually, I have liberated some plants already.

Sedum spurium (spurious would be more accurate, though I'm sure they have the same root word).

You know when sedum angelina (a thug in its own right) gives way, the spurium is indeed spurious.

Beautiful garden, tj! A little Shel is always welcome in my world.

One of my favorites that has committed itself to memory:

My beard grows to my toes,
I never wears no clothes,
I wraps my hair
Around my bare,
And down the road I goes.

The sky is blue

The sky is, The sky

I love poem, just a little scary.
Son still has Shel's books.
Also love your garden.
I see this sedum sold here as a ground cover..
looks like it's done it's job.

Wow, fantastic conifers and plantings!
I have a Sedum dragon blood, or dragon's blood can't recall...but every time it gets a foothold, the deer suddenly remember it...and viola! now you sedum, now you don't ;-)

Thanks for looking and the kind words.
Outside pix from zone 5 on a C&S forum are rare (and understandably so) so I figured any excuse is a good one.

Ryan- Shel was a favorite of mine. I may have a Dr Hook album floating around somewhere.

Josh- You know me, I've more conifers than anything. In fact, there used to be a sedum 'Blue Spruce' in there until my own mutant 'Dragon's Blood' devoured it. "Now you sedum..." LOL

Conifers hold their own during the growing season...

...but in zone 5, their winter interest really is a must.
