I'm growing CPs outside and lately I've noticed ants running around all over the place. Are ants a threat to carnivorous plants?
Woah, okay they're going for my Sarracenia and trying to consume the secretions from the peristome. How should I kill them?
Leave them be, that is the main reason the peristome secret the sugary substance. To attract insects and ants are the main staple of Sarracenias. My Sarracenias pitchers are full of ants.
So ants aren't a threat to CP, its mobile buffets.
Ants are like meals on legs for your sarrs,my sarrs love them.
You have it the other way around! CP's are a threat to the ants.
I was just worried they're start chewing through the plants. If they're not a threat, then good; if they're food, extra good!
While ants won't directly harm your carnivorous plants, if you notice a lot of ants around your plants keep an eye out for aphids, scale and mealy bugs. Ants will often farm and herd these pests.
